What it is and how it works
Aluminium and magnesium hydroxides neutralise gastric acid, with opposing effects on bowel habit; simeticone is a surfactant antifoaming agent that reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles, allowing them to coalesce and be expelled.
Indications
Symptomatic relief of dyspepsia, heartburn and gastro-oesophageal reflux associated with flatulence, bloating and abdominal distension.
Dosage and administration (summary)
Oral, usually taken between meals and at bedtime, or as required.
Contraindications
Severe renal impairment; hypophosphataemia; hypersensitivity.
Warnings and precautions
Aluminium and magnesium may accumulate in renal impairment. May alter bowel habit. Reduces absorption of tetracyclines, quinolones, iron, levothyroxine and other drugs; separate doses by at least 2 hours.
Pregnancy
Occasional short-term use at usual doses is considered acceptable in pregnancy.
Storage and supply
Store below 25 °C; do not freeze the suspension.
