What it is and how it works
A sterile amino acid solution with a profile adapted to the needs of neonates, infants and children, typically containing taurine and higher proportions of conditionally essential amino acids such as cysteine, tyrosine and histidine. It provides nitrogen for growth and protein synthesis.
Indications
Source of amino acids as part of parenteral nutrition in preterm and term neonates, infants and children when enteral nutrition is impossible, insufficient or contraindicated.
Dosage and administration (summary)
Dosing is individualised by the paediatric/neonatal nutrition team according to age, weight, clinical condition and protocol; given by intravenous infusion with energy sources, electrolytes, vitamins and trace elements.
Contraindications
Congenital abnormalities of amino acid metabolism; severe hepatic or renal insufficiency without dialysis; unstable circulatory states.
Warnings and precautions
Close monitoring of fluid and electrolyte balance, blood glucose, acid-base status, ammonia, liver and renal function is required, especially in preterm infants. Protect solutions administered to neonates from light, as light exposure may generate peroxides. Strict aseptic technique and controlled infusion rates are essential.

Store below 25 °C, protected from light; do not freeze.
