What it is and how it works

Amphotericin B binds to ergosterol in the cell membranes of fungi and Leishmania parasites, forming pores that increase permeability and cause cell death. Nanoliposomal encapsulation enhances skin penetration and local delivery while limiting irritation and systemic exposure.

Indications

Topical treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis; used in some settings for superficial cutaneous fungal infections.

Dosage and administration (summary)

Applied as a thin layer to the lesion, usually twice daily, for the duration specified by the treating physician or protocol.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to amphotericin B or excipients.

Warnings and precautions

Local irritation, erythema or itching may occur. For external use only; avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Lesions that are extensive, on the face near the eyes or not responding to treatment should be referred for systemic or alternative therapy.

Storage and supply

Store at 2–8 °C refrigerated; do not freeze.
