Covid-19 Vaccine, Whole Virion, Inactivated, Vero Cell-derived

What it is and how it works

Contains SARS-CoV-2 grown in Vero cell culture, chemically inactivated (for example with beta-propiolactone) and adsorbed on aluminium hydroxide adjuvant. The inactivated virus presents multiple viral antigens, inducing neutralising antibodies against SARS-CoV-2.

Indications

Active immunisation to prevent COVID-19 in the age groups specified for each product.

Dosage and administration (summary)

Given by intramuscular injection, usually as a two-dose primary series with boosters, according to the national immunisation protocol.

Contraindications

Severe allergic reaction to a previous dose or to any component of the vaccine.

Warnings and precautions

Appropriate treatment for anaphylaxis must be available and recipients observed after vaccination. Postpone in acute severe febrile illness; use with caution in thrombocytopenia or coagulation disorders. Immunocompromised individuals may have a reduced immune response.

Pregnancy

May be used in pregnancy where national guidance recommends it after benefit–risk assessment.

Storage and supply

Store refrigerated at 2–8 °C; do not freeze; protect from light.
