Ointment · Topical · 1 IU/666 IU
- List code
- 533
- Pharmacologic class
- Topical enzymatic debriding agent (fibrinolysin + deoxyribonuclease)
What it is and how it works
Fibrinolysin (bovine plasmin) dissolves fibrin in exudates and clots, and deoxyribonuclease depolymerises DNA from degenerating cells and pus. Together they liquefy necrotic material and exudate, facilitating its removal and exposing healthy tissue.
Indications
Enzymatic debridement of infected or necrotic lesions such as surgical wounds, ulcers (including leg and pressure ulcers), burns and other contaminated wounds.
Dosage and administration (summary)
Applied topically in a thin layer to the cleaned wound once or several times daily, with removal of dissolved material at each dressing change.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to bovine materials or to any component.
Warnings and precautions
For topical use only; not for parenteral use. The enzymes are inactivated quickly, so freshly prepared material and frequent dressing changes are needed; local irritation or hyperaemia may occur.
Storage and supply
Store below 25 °C, or as specified by the manufacturer.
