What it is and how it works
Compound salicylic acid preparations combine salicylic acid with other keratolytic or caustic agents (commonly lactic acid) in a collodion or film-forming base. Salicylic acid softens and loosens keratin, allowing gradual removal of hyperkeratotic tissue.
Indications
Topical treatment of common warts, plantar warts (verrucae), corns and calluses.
Dosage and administration (summary)
Applied topically to the lesion only, usually once daily, after soaking and gently abrading the surface; continued for up to several weeks according to product instructions.
Contraindications
Application to the face, anogenital region, mucous membranes, moles, birthmarks, hairy warts or broken or inflamed skin; caution or avoidance in diabetes and peripheral vascular disease.
Warnings and precautions
Protect the surrounding healthy skin, as the preparation may cause irritation or chemical burns. Many collodion-based products are highly flammable, so keep away from flames.
Storage and supply
Store below 25 °C in a tightly closed container, away from heat and flames.
