What it is and how it works
A bombesin peptide analogue conjugated to the HYNIC chelator and labelled with technetium-99m. It binds to gastrin-releasing peptide receptors (GRPR), which are overexpressed in several tumours such as prostate and breast cancer, allowing SPECT imaging of receptor-positive lesions.
Indications
Scintigraphic (SPECT) imaging of GRPR-expressing tumours, mainly prostate and breast cancer, in specialist nuclear medicine centres.
Dosage and administration (summary)
Activity is individualised by the nuclear medicine specialist according to the manufacturer’s instructions and local protocols.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the peptide or kit components.
Warnings and precautions
Clinical experience is more limited than with established radiopharmaceuticals; results should be interpreted alongside other imaging. Radiation exposure should be justified and minimised; interrupt breast-feeding temporarily. Prepare under aseptic conditions with radiation protection.
Pregnancy
Generally avoided in pregnancy; use only if clearly necessary.
Storage and supply
Store the kit as specified by the manufacturer (usually refrigerated); use the labelled product within the stated time, in lead shielding.
