What it is and how it works
Sodium phytate labelled with technetium-99m forms an insoluble calcium–phytate colloid in vivo after intravenous injection. The colloid is phagocytosed by the reticuloendothelial cells of the liver, spleen and bone marrow, allowing their scintigraphic imaging; after interstitial injection it migrates to regional lymph nodes.
Indications
Liver and spleen scintigraphy; bone marrow imaging; lymphoscintigraphy and sentinel lymph node detection (interstitial administration).

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the kit components.
Warnings and precautions
Radiation exposure should be justified and minimised; hypersensitivity reactions are rare. Breast-feeding should be interrupted temporarily after administration. Preparation must follow the kit instructions with strict aseptic technique and radiation protection.
Pregnancy
Use only when clearly necessary, weighing diagnostic benefit against fetal radiation exposure.
Storage and supply
Store the unlabelled kit as specified by the manufacturer (typically below 25 °C or 2–8 °C); use the labelled preparation within the stated shelf-life, in lead shielding.
