What it is and how it works
Stannous pyrophosphate labelled with technetium-99m is adsorbed onto hydroxyapatite crystals and calcium deposits, concentrating in areas of altered osteogenesis, damaged myocardium and transthyretin amyloid deposits. The stannous ions in the unlabelled kit can also ‘pre-tin’ red blood cells for subsequent labelling with pertechnetate.
Indications
Bone scintigraphy; myocardial imaging, including detection of cardiac transthyretin (ATTR) amyloidosis; in vivo or in vitro labelling of red blood cells for blood pool imaging and gastrointestinal bleeding studies.

Activity is individualised by the nuclear medicine specialist according to the indication and local protocols.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the kit components.
Warnings and precautions
Radiation exposure should be justified and minimised; encourage hydration and frequent voiding to reduce bladder dose. Breast-feeding should be interrupted temporarily. Prepare with aseptic technique; oxidising agents and air reduce labelling efficiency.
Pregnancy
Use only when clearly necessary, weighing diagnostic benefit against fetal radiation exposure.
Storage and supply
Store the unlabelled kit below 25 °C (or as specified by the manufacturer); use the labelled preparation within the stated time, in lead shielding.
