Trimetazidine

Tablet, Film Coated, Extended Release · Oral · 35 mg

List code
12115
Pharmacologic class
Anti-anginal agent (metabolic modulator; partial fatty acid oxidation inhibitor)

What it is and how it works

Trimetazidine inhibits mitochondrial long-chain 3-ketoacyl-CoA thiolase, shifting myocardial energy metabolism from fatty acid oxidation towards glucose oxidation, which requires less oxygen per unit of ATP produced. This preserves energy metabolism in ischaemic cells without affecting heart rate or blood pressure.

Indications

Add-on symptomatic treatment of stable angina pectoris in adults inadequately controlled by, or intolerant of, first-line anti-anginal therapies.

Contraindications
