What it is and how it works
Hydrocortisone acetate is a mild corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictive effects. Fusidic acid inhibits bacterial protein synthesis via elongation factor G and is active against Staphylococcus aureus and other Gram-positive bacteria. The combination treats inflammation while controlling bacterial infection.
Indications
Eczematous dermatoses, including atopic and contact dermatitis, where secondary bacterial infection with susceptible organisms is confirmed or suspected.
Dosage and administration (summary)
Apply a small quantity to the affected area 3 times daily, usually for no longer than 2 weeks.
Contraindications
Primary bacterial, viral (e.g. herpes simplex, varicella), fungal or tuberculous skin infections not adequately treated, perioral dermatitis, rosacea, acne vulgaris, and hypersensitivity to any component.
Warnings and precautions
Prolonged use increases the risk of bacterial resistance and of corticosteroid adverse effects such as skin atrophy, striae, telangiectasia and, with extensive use (particularly in infants and under occlusion), adrenal suppression. Avoid use on the face for long periods and contact with the eyes.
Pregnancy
Use in pregnancy only if the benefit outweighs the risk, on limited areas and for short periods.
Storage and supply
Store below 30 °C; keep the tube tightly closed.
