What it is and how it works
Ibuprofen is a propionic acid NSAID that inhibits cyclo-oxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2), reducing prostaglandin synthesis and producing analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Methocarbamol is a centrally acting muscle relaxant that depresses polysynaptic reflexes in the spinal cord, reducing muscle spasm.
Indications
Short-term relief of painful musculoskeletal conditions associated with muscle spasm, such as acute back pain, sprains and strains.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ibuprofen, other NSAIDs (including aspirin-induced asthma) or methocarbamol; active or history of recurrent peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding; severe heart, hepatic or renal failure; coma or pre-coma, myasthenia gravis, third trimester of pregnancy.
Warnings and precautions
NSAID-related gastrointestinal bleeding, cardiovascular thrombotic events and renal impairment may occur; use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time. Methocarbamol may cause drowsiness and dizziness, impairing driving; effects are additive with alcohol and other CNS depressants.
Pregnancy
Avoid in pregnancy; contraindicated in the third trimester because of the ibuprofen component.
Storage and supply
Store below 25 °C in a dry place.
